sir edward r.a. landseer - the dessert (1849)

When visiting two companies - Creative Spark and True North - in Manchester just over a week ago, I dropped by the Manchester Art Gallery. This painting caught my eye when I was there. Landseer painted a lion basking in the dessert. What I found interesting about this was that Landseer used a dead lion in London zoo as the subject of the painting. The painting itself is huge and a striking sight. It is also painted spectacularly. The image below certainly does not do it justice.
